About Us
It's an important and exciting time at Robert West and we have identified the need for a talented and high quality Senior Engineer to strengthen the Rail delivery team in our London office. Our workload is exciting and diverse and ranges from scheme design of large multi-building schemes to small modifications to existing structures. We work with D & B contractors, large institutional organisations (including Network Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway) and developers.
We are an engineering consultancy that punches above its weight in the rail sector, through offering intelligent design solutions and by executing projects effectively. We have a large and varied portfolio of rail related design work, from early stage bridge inspections and assessments to detailed design of large scale station alterations.
We are a long established and highly respected multi-discipline consultancy that is progressive in its outlook. Our people are personable and engaging, resulting in a positive and enjoyable office environment. We strive to deliver all we do at high quality and pride ourselves on this approach, resulting in a high proportion of repeat business with our clients.
We are looking for an engineer who can play an important role in rail projects through their complete life cycle, from tender production to scheme and detailed design. You will be trained and mentored to take on responsibility as soon as you are able and, due to our business approach, will gain a range of experience in engineering design, construction process, project delivery and business operation. The role will offer great opportunities for career progression.
About You
You will have a broad range of skills and experience designing and assessing various structural forms in all the common construction materials, and will therefore have a strong technical background. The experience you have gained since graduation has given you an intuitive feel for structural behaviour, and allows you to make engineering judgements quickly and independently. Consequently, thinking in first principles and setting up models of complex structural arrangements using common modelling software packages holds no fear to you.
You will have an interest or desire to lead less experienced engineers, and manage internal resources for delivery. Perhaps most importantly, you will be entirely comfortable taking responsibility for delivery of tasks and projects. Actively seeking responsibility will be part of your personality.
You will have proven experience in designing most or all of the below:
- Rail structures and buildings
- Retaining structures
- Foundations
- Over, under and footbridges
- Culverts and crossings
- Earth structures
Key Skills
- Graduate or equivalent calibre
- Chartered or near Chartered Civil / Structural Engineer
- Strong analytical engineering skills
- The ability to develop and present civil engineering solutions
- Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations
- Ability to lead small projects or elements of larger projects
- Ability to manage workloads and direct graduate engineers
- Ability to assist with fee proposals, monitor project progress and spend
- Ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion with minimal input
- Ability to function well within a team environment
