Latimer Road Station
by Robert West | 11 Aug 2011
Latimer Road Station has now fully re-opened 2 weeks ahead of plan. The 120 year old brick-arch viaduct station has undergone major structural renovations to replace and extend the platforms, including replacement of existing foundations and lateral strengthening of the lattice girders spanning over the road below. Robert West provided a full structural and multi-disciplined design service, playing a major part in the project's success.
Team work between the client (London Underground) the contractor (Volker Fitzpatrick) and Robert West have been exemplary. The project leader for Robert West, Richard Lawrence, commented, "Despite the delivery pressures on this technically challenging project, it was so enjoyable to work with a team whose sole focus was delivery. Commitment to delivery has been first class".
With the humility that is typical of the whole team, the project manager for Volker Fitzpatrick said, "I am very proud to be part of the team that has made this happen".
The project is part of the London Underground Station Upgrades Programme. Upon completion of the programme the Hammersmith and City Line will run 7-car trains, increasing its current capacity.
