Case study

Twelvetrees Crescent Bridge

Client: ProLogis
This project involved the redevelopment of an ex-British Gas site - bounded by the A12, A13 and the River Lee Navigation in the Thames Gateway area - into a strategic logistics hub. We were commissioned to develop a traffic scheme that provided public transport and lorry access to the site via a Grade II listed bridge. The local authority was objecting on the basis that through traffic would create a rat run.

Added value
Our traffic scheme using telemetry controlled traffic signals and retractable bollards enabled public and approved transport but prevented private vehicles. Our design to widen and strengthen the Grade II 1890's listed bridge for modern lorry loads whilst retaining its visual appearance was approved by English Heritage. To secure permission from the Environment Agency and from British Waterways, a sealed crash deck was developed to contain contamination when an asbestos filled gas main was removed.
