Management team

Richard has been leading our Rail Business Unit since 2007 and has recently been promoted to Director.

Following 1st class honours graduation in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol, Richard spent the early years of his career in a Building Structures environment. Initially he was involved in designing a range of high profile buildings in central London, incorporating commercial, residential, mixed-use and gymnasium facilities. Working at Yolles Partnership (now Halcrow Yolles) and Manhire Associates, he was given the opportunity to quickly develop his technical knowledge through early responsibility on projects. In undertaking significant client liaison during this time, Richard developed an assured approach with clients and client organisations.

Richard joined Robert West in 2001, immediately strengthening the team (seconded to Tube Lines Ltd) undertaking the Connect Enabling Works Project. In the following years he progressed to Lead Design Engineer for the project, managing the design team and overseeing the design on behalf of Tube Lines. His abilities as a design manager became apparent during this time; he has since managed a number of high profile engineering projects, including the Covent Garden Station Congestion Relief Project, the CBS Outdoor (London Underground) Advertising Upgrade, and works on the West Coast Route Modernisation Programme.

Now leading the Rail Business Unit, he provides direction to the Rail team in all aspects of our projects, both technically and commercially. He is responsible for project programming and monitoring, technical output, and client liaison. Richard is particularly skilled at leading design teams where efficient design process and systems engineering is key to successful delivery.
