Robert West was approached to provide engineering support to an existing client contractor who was constructing this prestigious new public space.

The contractor was seeking. through value engineering, to ensure that the project was quick, easy and cost effective to build.  Robert West redesigned substantial elements of the infrastructure, bringing a pragmatic and contractor-friendly approach to the project.


Robert West oversaw:

  • the reconstruction of some elements of the existing London Underground structures under the square, the design of cladding support systems and major improvements to the drainage infrastructure
  • Construction support, providing proactive and swift response to any technical queries arising at site


The determination of the project team to meet deadlines ensured that Robert West delivered to the client’s expectations, demonstrating our ability to think on our feet and stay on top of the demands of a complex and dynamic scheme. Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said it is, «now a destination in its own right.

The project team enjoyed working on a high profile project and experiencing the buzz on this city centre site.  The project gave them the opportunity to develop their engineering skills and construction knowledge”.
