The new development at Furze Platt Senior School is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenheads's estate expansion strategy, providing approximately 2284 m2 of new build teaching, learning and ancillary support space to serve the whole school.

Robert West were appointed to provide transport planning, civil and structural engineering services.

The structure for the teaching block is a typical braced steel frame structure with hollow core slabs and pile foundations.  On one corner there is a glazed full height facade bearing the Furze Platt school logo.  To facilitate this the columns are hidden in the cladding of the building at the point that the glazing stops and the slabs are supported by cantilevering beams.  The structure is built around a central atrium, allowing the light to penetrate throughout this space.

The design also includes a partial basement for plant equipment on a sloped landscape.

The project leader has enjoyed providing a proactive service, being quick to reply to queries and the interaction between third parties ensuring no programme delays.

We look forward to seeing the building completed in 2018!
