Twyford Station - Foundation Design

The Brief

Robert West are once again involved with the Crossrail project as the changes it brings require modernisation across the rail network.

Crossrail trains utilise Driver Only Operation (DOO) technology and require new cameras and associated cable routes at Crossrail stations to enable the system to operate.

At Twyford Station in Buckinghamshire Robert West were commissioned by Fourway Communications to carry out the civil design for the DOO scheme. This included the design of the concrete foundations for the DOO cameras, the associated cable routing, canopy camera brackets and a structural assessment of the existing station canopy.

Value-Added Solution

Starting with a design team meeting in April 2019 the Robert West team worked closely with Fourway Communications to deliver the scheme. Using the Projectwise platform enabled the team to work on the engineering models at the same time as our client, streamlining the delivery process and increasing speed of turnaround.  In addition to this, they drew upon the BIM library of Cubis to guide the Cable Management design and co-ordinated the specialist services from Socotec who provided a point cloud survey and a 3D model of the area.

Final Outcomes

The project lasted approximately three months with design completion in the summer of 2019.  It has been rewarding to be involved with a project from inception, liaising throughout with the client and suppliers in a collaborative and speedy approach.  We look forward to seeing the cameras in place later this year.
