Old Oak Common Central Line Bridge

CASE STUDY

Robert West designed temporary works to repurpose a 17m-span plate girder U-deck bridge as a haul road for plant, including a 75te piling rig. The solution involved structural assessment, strengthening bearing stiffeners, and installing ekki mats for load distribution.

A monitoring regime was implemented, measuring deflections under incremental loads. Actual data aligned with theoretical values (+10 %), validating the analysis and ensuring safe passage of additional traffic loads. This approach enhanced accuracy, reduced risk, and optimised buildability, demonstrating our commitment to safe, efficient temporary works solutions.
