Ready to take the next step in your marine engineering career? Robert West Consulting is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our marine team in London. You will work on the design and assessment of marine structures, take responsibility for project delivery and develop your skills within an experienced, collaborative team.
We are recruiting for one position within our marine team, advertised at both Senior and Principal level. The appointment will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. We welcome applications from engineers who are Chartered or working towards chartership.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of marine projects from tender through to detailed design. Your responsibilities will include:
Technical Delivery: Develop designs and assessments for marine structures such as jetties, quays, wharves and cofferdams, working closely with colleagues across the project team.
Project Responsibility: Lead projects or defined work packages appropriate to your experience, with support from senior colleagues.
Project Management: Manage the technical and commercial aspects of your allocated work, monitoring progress, budgets and deadlines.
Client Relationships: Act as a day-to-day contact for clients on your projects, providing clear communication and supporting high-quality delivery.
Team Collaboration: Coordinate with colleagues and other disciplines, sharing knowledge and supporting junior engineers.
What You Bring
We are looking for an engineer with strong design skills, practical judgement and the confidence to take responsibility for their work.
Qualifications: BEng/MEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent technical training. Chartered status is welcome but is not essential; applications from engineers working towards chartership are encouraged.
Marine Structures Experience: Relevant experience in the design and assessment of marine structures, with an understanding of the challenges of working in maritime environments.
Project Experience: A track record of contributing to UK marine projects, particularly in structural design, with experience of managing projects or work packages.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CDM regulations and Quality Management Systems.
Geotechnical Understanding: A sound grasp of the geotechnical principles applicable to marine structures.
Engineering Judgement: The ability to make sound engineering decisions, recognise when to seek advice and work effectively within a team.
Technical Proficiency: A strong civil or structural engineering background and a proactive approach to project responsibility.
Communication & Collaboration: Clear communication skills, the ability to build client relationships and a willingness to support and share knowledge with colleagues.
